CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — A total of 101 teachers employed under the Programang Pang-edukasyon sa Kalibliban (PPSKa) have renewed their contracts with the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro.
The program PPSKa is one of the mechanisms of the Provincial Government in aiding students attain proper education, especially those from the far-flung areas.
Teachers are employed from the different municipalities in the province and are deployed in remote areas to provide education such as basic reading and writing.
It is a given fact that most Indigenous People (IP) have a hard time attaining formal education due to the living conditions that they face every day. With this in mind, the Provincial Government under the administration of Governor Humerlito A. Dolor continues to pursue ways and exhaust all options to eradicate illiteracy among the IPs of the province.
At present, about 67% from the total of 101 teachers who renewed their contracts under the Provincial Government are from various indigenous tribes in Oriental Mindoro. Dolor directed the Provincial Employment Services Office (PESO) to ensure that the majority of the teachers who will be hired by the Provincial Government will be an IP. The governor believes that teaching will be much more effective when there are no language barriers present, and if the mentor and the mentee came from the same cultural background.
Meanwhile, PESO Officer Antonio Magnaye lauds the initiative of the Provincial Government in helping those who need proper education. Magnaye emphasized that no one will be left behind under the current administration when it comes to education, as education is one of the top priorities of Dolor. Magnaye also encouraged other IP teacher graduates to apply in PPSKa in order to ensure that illiteracy among the IPs will be eradicated by year 2028 as envisioned by the chief executive.
