MANILA, (PIA) — Navotas City Representative Toby Tiangco is urging the nationwide expansion of the Department of Social Work and Development’s (DSWD) “Walang Gutom” Kitchen program, which aims to combat hunger and support underserved communities across the Philippines.

“Napakaganda po ng programang ito ng DSWD, at sana ay mapag-aralan nilang maigi kung paano ito maisasagawa sa mas maraming mga lugar sa bansa,” Tiangco said, expressing his strong support for the initiative.
He emphasized that the program aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to address hunger and poverty in the country.
Since its launch on December 16, 2024, the “Walang Gutom” Kitchen has provided over 10,000 hot and nutritious meals to individuals in need.
Tiangco highlighted the program’s potential to uplift impoverished communities, noting, “Hindi lingid sa atin na marami pa rin sa ating mga kababayan ang nagugutom, lalo na sa mga probinsya. Expanding this program will greatly benefit those in poor communities.”
In addition to addressing immediate hunger needs, Tiangco pointed out the program’s role in reducing food wastage. “The program not only addresses hunger but also helps deter food wastage by turning surplus food into meals for those in need,” he added.
The “Walang Gutom” Kitchen initiative repurposes surplus food from hotels, restaurants, and organizations, transforming it into hot, nutritious meals for underserved individuals.
Tiangco’s call for expansion reflects a growing commitment to tackling food insecurity and improving the welfare of marginalized populations throughout the nation. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
