Repair shops in Antique must comply with registration requirements

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — Service Repair Establishments (SRE) are urged to comply with the registration requirements provided under Presidential Decree 1572 of 1978 or the Repair and Service Shop Accreditation Law and Republic Act No. 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique Provincial Director Mary Jade Gonzales emphasized that the accreditation of service repair establishments is one of the important programs under the Consumer Protection Unit of DTI.

She emphasized that the accreditation of SRE is a way of ensuring that the repair shops are compliant with standards and have competent technicians duly accredited by the government.

Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist Arnel Oliveros noted that under PD 1572, shops undertaking repair services, including repair shops for motor vehicles, heavy equipment, engine and engineering works, and other construction machines, should be accredited with DTI.

Likewise, included are electronic shops that conduct repair for televisions, washing machines, electrical products (electric fans, iron, blenders, rice cookers, etc), air conditioning and refrigeration, office equipment (computers, printers, fax machines), medical and dental equipment and other mechanical and industrial appliances and devices.

Meanwhile, DTI clarified that repair shops for cellphones are under the jurisdiction of the National Telecommunications Commission.

Certificate or a Certificate of Competency from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) indicating their competence to undertake repairs of specific equipment or devices.

Oliveros called on owners of repair shops to display their business names and accreditation certificates with corresponding repair rates for easy reference of clients. (AGP/PSM/PIAAntique)
