MANILA — Residents are now guaranteed heightened safety and protection following the completion of a flood mitigation structure by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along a section of the Talomo River in Barangay Calinan, Davao City.
According to DPWH Regional Office 11 Director Juby B. Cordon, in a report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the flood control project situated in the Balite Section of the Talomo River is a vital countermeasure to minimize widespread flooding significantly affecting the living conditions of the residents in the area.
“The completion of the project provides the residents a sense of relief from the threat of flooding that has been causing serious damages to residential properties, livestock, and farmlands for many years,” added Director Cordon.
This is in line with the President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s thrust to intensify preparations for disasters like flooding by strengthening existing flood control systems and building new ones.
Implemented by DPWH Davao City 2nd District Engineering Office, the 1081.3-lineal meter revetment wall aims to strengthen the river bank’s capacity to mitigate soil erosion and regulate the water flow in the Talomo River, particularly during the rainy season.
Completed ahead of schedule, the flood control project in Barangay Calinan amounting to P86.51 Million is funded under the Regular Infrastructure 2024. (DPWH)
