CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — At least 2,185 rice farmers from this city received financial assistance of P5,000 each from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Mimaropa through the recent distribution conducted by the City Agricultural Services Department (CASD) held at Kalap Covered Court, New City Hall Compound in Brgy. Guinobatan.
Beneficiaries of the program were farmers who have owned a two-hectare land and registered to the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture of DA. The financial assistance will serve as a support aid to model city farmers of Calapan.
Mayor Malou Morillo delivered her message during the distribution program which aims to provide cash grants to small holder rice farmers who are affected by the episodes of a significant drop in palay farmgate prices as well as to enhance farmers’ opportunities to improve productivity and profitability.
Morillo also emphasized the city government’s prepared projects and programs for the farmers particularly in sustaining vegetable gardening, training, providing employment and even helping them to sell their products outside the province. (LTC/PIA MIMAROPA)
