QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Marikina City government has granted rice retailers in the city what appears to be a “full package” aid through three measures.
This includes six months of business tax exemption, two months of free market rent and cash aid.
It can be recalled that Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro signed three ordinances yesterday to help such rice retailers who are affected by the rice price cap implemented by the government.
Among the ordinances signed by Teodoro is Ordinance No. 68 Series of 2023 or the “Ordinance Granting Relief on Rental Payments to Rice Retailers at the Marikina Public Market in the City of Marikina.”
Pursuant to said ordinance, a two-month relief is given in the payment of rent for stalls in the Marikina City Public Market, for the months of September and October 2023.
“We have repeated what we did during the last pandemic where the small rice vendors in the Marikina Public Market will not pay rent for the next two months until the supply of rice is stable and the price is back to before. That was our first proposal and so far we have signed it as an ordinance,” said Mayor Marcy.
It can also be recalled that Teodoro also signed Ordinance No. 69 Series of 2023 or the “Ordinance Granting Relief on Business Tax Payment to Rice Retailers in the City of Marikina.”
Under the ordinance, rice retailers operating in Marikina are exempted from paying business taxes on their gross sales or receipts for the third and fourth quarters of this year, or within six months.
In addition, Mayor Marcy also signed Ordinance No. 70, Series of 2023 or the “Ordinance Granting Cash Assistance to Rice Retailers in the City of Marikina.”
Under the ordinance, the local government will provide P5,000 cash assistance to eligible rice retailers affected by the price ceiling on rice. (PIA-NCR)
