CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Anne Jane Duhaylungsod of RMN-DXCC 828 won the first-ever Official Statistics Quiz Show for Media Practitioners conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-X in line with the celebration of the 34th National Statistics Month (NSM).
Duhaylungsod recorded the highest score, 22 out of 30 points, in the 34th NSM Regional Closing Ceremony held on October 27. She was followed by Mr. Franck Dick Rosete of Manila Bulletin with 20 points and Mr. Noel B. Registos of Brigada News with 19 points. The top three winners received plaques of recognition and prize tokens.
The quiz show was held at the Deluxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City on 25 October 2023 as part of the Data Appreciation Seminar for Media Practitioners, which aims to impart knowledge on the definitions of statistical operations and official statistics of PSA.
Four statistical operations were presented and discussed: the Labor Force Survey, Provincial Product Accounts, Prices Survey, and National Demographic and Health Survey. The open forum allowed for questions and clarifications.
PSA-X Chief Statistical Specialist Sarah B. Balagbis expressed her gratitude to the media for the continued support of the activities of PSA in disseminating information not just on the statistical operations but also on the services of PSA-X.
She emphasized the media’s crucial role in delivering accurate and truthful information in respectful language to keep the public informed.
The other participants of the seminar and quiz bee were Menzie Montes of RMN DXCC 828, Khaye Buscaino of IFM CDO-RMN, Sean Sulugan of Brigada News, Requim Sulita of Radyo Bandera, Brian Abad of Radyo Bandera, and Roy Cubelo of DXCO.
The activity promoted the use of statistics for evidence-based decision-making and familiarized participants with the PSA’s other mandates. (PSA-X/PIA-10)
