ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) — Local government units (LGUs) across Romblon province are being urged to designate public information officers (PIOs) to enhance communication between the government and the public.
Odiongan Municipal Public Information Officer Kim Faderon stressed that PIOs play a crucial role in disseminating accurate and timely information, pointingh out the need for LGUs to prioritize clear communication strategies, especially in response to increasing demands for transparency and efficient public service.
“Kung walang PIO sa LGU, sino ‘yung madaling lapitan ng community na hindi politiko? So, kami ‘yung humaharap sa publiko to bridge them sa information na kailangan nila sa munisipyo,” Faderon said.
Currently, nearly 30 percent of the towns in Romblon have yet to formalize these positions, resulting in gaps in consistent and reliable information flow, particularly during emergencies.
Faderon encouraged local leaders to start with small teams, such as social media managers, to handle basic PIO tasks. This would help improve public relations and build trust between government institutions and the communities they serve.
Faderon was a guest at the Philippine Information Agency-Romblon’s Kapihan on Thursday, September 19, where discussions were focused on the Public Relations Month. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon)
