RPMC monitors projects in Benguet and Baguio City

ITOGON, Benguet (PIA) — The Cordillera Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) is helping to ensure efficient and effective implementation of various government-funded projects  through the inspection and monitoring of ongoing infrastructure projects.

This project inspection and monitoring is a vital activity outlined in the RPMC’s agenda, aiming to assess projects while validating and verifying the reports submitted by the implementing agencies.

On June 24 and 25, the RPMC Project Inspectorate Team led by NEDA Regional Director Susan A. Sumbeling inspected selected projects in Baguio City and Benguet.

Among the projects validated in Benguet are the Guisset-Binga-Baloy-Tinongdan Road in Itogon, and the construction of research greenhouse, repair and upgrading of roof canopy at the Student’s Queuing Area of the University Registrar and Admission Division,  and the construction of an open university building at the  Benguet State University in La Trinidad.

For Baguio City, delayed projects which were monitored are the multipurpose building projects in  Barangays  Irisan and Lualhati,  at the Athletic Bowl Oval, and at Wright Park, and the rehabilitation of Kennon Road.

General observations show that most projects which incurred negative slippages are due to project management gaps.

Other findings include stolen equipment due to lack of security measures, and inadequate routine maintenance of road assets in some projects.

With the identified concerns, the team recommended a continuous and thorough inspection of said projects to make sure that these will be completed as soon as possible.

The RPMC further suggested for the implementing agencies to consider strengthening the Local Project Monitoring Committee or to designate a project management officer or task force to closely supervise the projects.

In response, the implementing agencies assured completion of said projects.

Representatives from the regional offices of the DENR, DILG, NICA, PIA, and Presidential Management Staff, alongside private sector representatives comprised the RPMC Project Inspectorate Team  .

The RPMC is a support committee to the Regional Development Council  that is tasked with the monitoring of  all foreign-assisted, interprovincial, area development, nationally-funded, and locally-funded projects, as well as other critical regional projects identified by the Office of the President and the RDC.
