ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) — Romblon State University (RSU) has started distributing new laptops to regular faculty members of 6 campuses in Tablas Island as part of the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Smart Campus Development program. The program aims to improve information and communication technology in State Universities and Colleges.
RSU President, Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, together with Rep. Eleandro Madrona led the distribution of laptops to about 194 regular faculty members from the Main campus, San Andres campus, San Agustin campus, Calatrava campus, Sta. Maria campus, and Sta. Fe campus.
Dr. Mani said during the distribution that the core i3 and i7 laptops are just part of the first tranche of the P750M worth program that was approved by CHED.
“The e-system— from enrollment to attendance to accounting, to personal management, human resource, data, all in the management system and operation of the school is within the package of the first tranche that we’ll be launching by February. We are just waiting for the data center to stand,” Dr. Mani said.
“Not only the laptops, but you will also enjoy together with your students, the interactive classroom that will be opened and launched by March or April,” she added.
Rep. Eleandro Madrona meanwhile shared that he already talked to House Appropriation Chairman Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Elizaldy Co to fund the second tranche of the program to ensure that RSU will have the highest quality as a ‘smart university’.
Enrolled undergraduate students of the university will also receive laptops as part of the Smart Campus Development Program including faculties and students from other islands. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA)
