SALAY, Misamis Oriental (PIA) – The local government unit (LGU) of Salay recently hosted a benchmarking activity with officials and employees from local government unit of Leyte.
Led by Mayor Angelo G. Capistrano Jr., Salay welcomed the Leyte delegation, headed by Mayor Arnold James Ysodoro, to focus on the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI), and the Dangal ng Bayan Award. These benchmarks are crucial for assessing and improving local governance and public service delivery.
Benchmarking activities allow LGUs to learn from each other’s successes and challenges, aiming to replicate best practices and implement effective strategies. By focusing on the SGLG, LGUs can ensure they meet essential governance criteria such as financial administration, disaster preparedness, and social protection, ultimately leading to better services for their constituents.
The Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) provides a framework for improving local economic performance, infrastructure, and resilience. By understanding how top-ranking cities achieve their status, LGUs can adopt similar strategies to boost their competitiveness and attract investments.
The Dangal ng Bayan Award recognizes outstanding public servants, promoting a culture of excellence and dedication within the public sector. Highlighting this award during the benchmarking activity underscores the importance of ethical leadership and the positive impact of motivated, committed public employees.
The event is a platform for exchanging best practices and insights into local governance and public service excellence. The visit aimed to explore strategies and initiatives that have enabled Salay to excel in these prestigious recognitions.
The knowledge-sharing activity began with a presentation by Mr. Roy Czar E. Lumacad about Salay LGU’s innovations. Key discussions throughout the day centered on the processes and frameworks behind the SGLG, a national program that encouraged LGUs’ continuous improvement of service delivery and governance.
The CMCI, which ranks cities and municipalities based on economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation, was another focal point of the benchmarking activity.
The Dangal ng Bayan Award, recognizing outstanding public servants, was highlighted as a testament to the dedication and commitment of LGU employees. Both LGUs expressed eagerness to collaborate and support each other in future endeavors.
