The Samar provincial government recently launched the Samar Center for Developmental Pediatrics (CDP) to provide expert medical care for children with special needs and ensure their brighter futures.
The pediatrics center is at the Spark Samar Development Hub, Arteche Blvd., Catbalogan City. It is designed to offer therapy services like occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy.

Ralph Tizon, head of the pediatrics center, stated that it also functions as an educational hub for parents and teachers, providing them with the knowledge and skills to support children effectively.
According to Governor Sharee Ann Tan, this initiative aims to meet the increasing demand for specialized developmental care in the province and ensure that all children receive the necessary support to thrive regardless of their challenges.
“This center is more than just a facility. It is a promise that no parent will have to navigate the journey of developmental challenges alone. A promise that every child will receive the specialized care, support, and love they deserve. A promise that Samar will lead the way in creating an inclusive, compassionate, and empowering environment for children with developmental needs,” said Dr. Jansenn Mutya, chief of Hospital of Samar Provincial Hospital.
The Samar Center for Developmental Pediatrics is now accepting online registrations. Applicants must provide a child’s birth certificate and their parents’ PhilHealth identification card to register.
People living nearby should visit the center for faster registration. Otherwise, applicants can still register by submitting the required documents through the center’s online registration system.

Dr. Sheryll Bañez Palami, a pediatrician at the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC), praised the provincial government’s commitment to child development.
She noted that while EVMC provides some services, a new center is needed to support children with special needs better.
