San Jose City to host 2023 Regional Schools Press Conference

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — San Jose City National High School will host the 2023 Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) on May 20 and 27.

This year’s RSPC carries the theme “From Campus Journalism to Real-World Journalism: Shaping Minds from Schools to Societies” and will be participated by both elementary and secondary qualifiers from the 20 Schools Division Offices of Central Luzon.

Department of Education Regional Director May Eclar said RSPC aims to demonstrate an understanding on the importance of journalism by expressing it through different journalistic endeavors and approaches.

“It also seeks to sustain advocacy on social consciousness and environmental awareness, provide a venue for an enriching learning experience for students interested in journalism as a career or those who intend to use skill sets learned through campus journalism to give them a better edge in their chosen careers, promote responsible journalism and fair and ethical use of social media, and enhance journalistic competence through healthy and friendly competitions,” she added.

Individual Contests include News Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, Sports Writing, Copyreading and Headline Writing, Science and Technology Writing, Photojournalism, Editorial Cartooning, and Column Writing.

Moreover, Group Contests consist of Radio Script Writing and Broadcasting, Collaborative Desktop Publishing, Online Publishing Contest (for secondary level),  and TV Script Writing and Broadcasting (for secondary level).

Meanwhile, the School Paper Contests Categories shall also award the Best News Section, Feature Section, Editorial Section, Science and Technology Section, Sports Section, and Layout and Page Design.

The top 10 winners in all events per contest category per medium shall be recognized and the points they will garner will be included in the computation of the overall scores.

The conduct of the 2023 RSPC is pursuant to Republic Act No. 7079, otherwise known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991. (CLJD-PIA 3)
