MANILA, (PIA) — Mayor Jeannie Sandoval has warned Malabueños against “poser” Facebook accounts illegally assuming her and her husband’s identity, former Malabon City Representative Ricky Sandoval, for unscrupulous activities and disinformation.
“While we continue to provide honest and reliable programs, we face these ‘fake news’ attacks aimed at disrupting our service to the city,” Sandoval said, as she condemned the rising tide of false information targeting city government programs and services.
The city government reported the emergence of fake Facebook accounts impersonating “Mayor Jeannie Sandoval” and “Ricky Sandoval.” These accounts send friend requests and ask for personal information in exchange for e-load promotions.
She charged that certain groups are spreading false information to manipulate public opinion for their own political agendas.
“This serves as a warning for all of us to be vigilant, responsible, and smart users of social media. We urge everyone to be cautious about suspicious messages and information for the safety of all,” she added.
The mayor emphasized that such tactics are not new and are intended to hinder the city’s progress.
“We know the truth, and you can count on us not to allow misinformation to impede our development as a united and collaborative community,” she added.
The local government had also warned about misleading posts from social media accounts like “Malabon Lubog” and “Malabon News,” which have shared falsehoods regarding the mayor.
Mayor Sandoval urged Malabuenos to critically assess misinformation and to verify facts through official and legitimate sources, including the city government’s official Facebook pages. She has directed her legal team to gather information to potentially pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading false news.
“Despite these challenges, we will not waver in providing quality services to all Malabuenos. We will expand and enhance programs that our constituents truly need,” she asserted.
