Sangguniang Panlalawigan considers digitizing legislation

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) –The Palawan Provincial Board proposes a shift to a paperless process of legislation to save expenses from printing and make it more accessible when tracking updates.

It could be the first attempt to digitalize the process of legislation in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), said SP member Ryan Maminta.

The estimation for the costs possibly reaches around P10-P15 million, wherein needed funds may potentially be supported by the supplemental budget or be proposed under the 2026 budget.

“Yong appreciation siguro ng mga members, mga ganitong institusyon talagang traditional more or less ang approach. Given the digital age, sabi nga long overdue, 10 years behind na tayo kung titingnan ‘yong ibang sanggunian,” he said.

The cost covers allocation to a stable internet connection and equipment such as a computer or tablet for each member of the Sanggunian, including secretariat and committee personnel.

The shift to paperless will cover the processes of filing, legislation, and approval.

The committees on appropriations, rules, and privileges receive the proposed resolution during the regular session on February 18. (RG/PIA MIMAROPA-Palawan)
