‘SANYOG KAPIS’ to empower marginalized communities

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Capiz Field Office and the Capiz Police Provincial Office’s (CPPO) 1st Capiz Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st CPMFC) launched the “SANYOG KAPIS” (Sanyogon ang Pangabuhian sang Kabataan, Agrikultura, Panagat, Industriya, kag Siyensya) project that is seen to provide livelihood opportunities to the marginalized sectors in the province.

“Ito ay isang sama-samang hakbang tungo sa mas maunlad at mas inklusibong Capiz. Layon ng proyektong ito na bigyan ng tamang kasanayan, kagamitan, at oportunidad ang ating kabataan, manggagawa, mangingisda, magsasaka, at pati na ang ating mga Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) beneficiaries upang sila ay magkaroon ng mas matatag na kabuhayan,” DOLE Capiz Field Office Provincial Director Michael Gison stated.

(This is a collective step towards a more progressive and inclusive Capiz. This project aims to provide necessary skills, equipment, and opportunities to the youth, workers, fisherfolk, farmers, and even our PDL beneficiaries to help them have a more stable livelihood).

First CPMFC Commander PLTCOL Ricardo Jomuad Jr. said that aside from providing livelihood grants, the project serves as the convergence of Aton Mamumugon kag Mangunguma Organisahon Manggad na dapat Amligan (AMOMA) stakeholders focused on crime prevention and strengthening peace and security in the province.

“SANYOG KAPIS” is an offshoot of an existing 1st CPMFC-initiated project AMOMA.

During the launching, more than 20 individuals in the province received nearly P3 million in livelihood from DOLE Capiz, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Gison also noted that DOLE has granted P2,710,000 under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) to five organizations and seven individual beneficiaries of sari-sari store packages.

One of the individual beneficiaries, Hersel Reyes from Barangay 2, Roxas City expressed her gratitude for the assistance she received, emphasizing that she truly needs it at this time.

Reyes shared that her family is currently staying at the barangay hall after Pag-IBIG foreclosed their land due to unpaid dues.

“Dako gid ni nga bulig sa amon kay may college ako subong nga ginapaeskwela kag hindi gid enough ang pagiging tanod ko sa amon barangay kay P400 lang ang bulanan nga sweldo,” she added.

(It is a huge help for us because I have a child in college, and my job as a barangay tanod is not enough to support our needs since my monthly salary is only P400.)

Fortunately, Reyes was also allowed by their punong barangay to stay temporarily and sell groceries at the barangay hall to earn additional income.

She remains hopeful that they will receive a free housing project from the city government.

Additionally, Gison said that another livelihood distribution worth P13,560,000 will soon benefit 21 organized associations and 10 individual beneficiaries in the province. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
