ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) — The Western Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMAARRDEC) launched “SciComustahan”, which integrates Science, Communication, and Kamustahan to connect scientific advancements with communities in Mindanao.
The initiative bridges the gap between research and application, facilitating knowledge exchange among Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs), Mindanao consortia, and stakeholders.
“SciComustahan ensures that science reaches the people who need it most by using effective communication strategies,” said Kimberly Joy Kilat, project leader of WESMAARRDEC.
SciComustahan includes SciKaalaman (Science Knowledge and Information) and SciComunidad (Science Community) to communicate research findings, particularly in the Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) sectors.
The program uses television, radio, and online platforms to share scientific knowledge through communication theories and practical strategies.
“This platform informs and inspires, encouraging communities to adopt technological advancements,” Kilat added.
SciComustahan mainstreams technology transfer programs and promotes the adoption of AANR technologies, contributing to Mindanao’s sustainable growth.
The initiative provides access to scientific knowledge and resources, strengthens public engagement in science-driven solutions, and enhances collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders.
“SciComustahan ensures that scientific knowledge is understood, applied, and benefits communities,” Kilat said.
The program is spearheaded by WESMAARRDEC, a non-stock, non-profit, and non-sectarian quasi-government organization dedicated to advancing research and development in Mindanao.
As SciComustahan continues to expand, it reinforces the role of science communication in fostering innovation and sustainable progress in the region. (EDT/MLE/PIA Region 9-Zamboanga City)
