ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) conducted a roadshow on capital formation for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and start-ups by accessing funds in the capital market in Roxas City on Aug. 15.
SEC Commissioner Karlo Bello emphasized that catering to the needs of the MSMEs is one of the top priorities of the Marcos administration.
Bello stated the current administration provides different financing solutions as businesses recover from the pandemic and recent economic slowdown.
“We are one with the President in recognizing the MSMEs as the backbone of our national economy,” the Commissioner added.
He noted the importance of the regional roadshow for the promotion and awareness of various ways the MSMEs and start-ups can access the capital market for their financing needs.
The SEC roadshow through the Office for the Advancement of Strategic Investments in SMEs (OASIS) aims to promote and advocate for a whole-government approach to strengthening the country’s MSME network.
Further, SEC Iloilo Extension Office Director lawyer Cristina Montelibano said they have at least 200 onsite participants from Capiz and online viewers nationwide.
She clarified that they are not the ones giving the funds but through the roadshow, they are introducing alternative fund solutions aside from regular banking services.
“Like in Roxas City, as mentioned by mayor Ronnie Dadivas, the majority of the businesses in Capiz and Roxas City are sole proprietorships so we can tie it up with the crowdfunding intermediaries on how they can introduce alternative funds for Roxas City businesses.
Dadivas joined the gathering as one of the speakers during the SEC roadshow at San Antonio Resort in Roxas City.
Montelibano also acknowledged the importance of working with other stakeholders to conduct more investor education, planning literacy, and warning about scams in the province.
Bello also said this will not be the last time that they will visit the city as mayor Dadivas is very active and willing to work to increase the number of businesses in the city. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
