Senator Bong Go inaugurates a world-class passenger terminal building in Calapan

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Tesoro Go led the formal opening and inauguration of the world-class sea port Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) as well as the unveiling of the marker at the Port Area, Brgy. San Antonio.

According to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the new port could accommodate at least 3,500 passengers compared to the old one which accommodateed 1,600 passengers only. It boasts state of the art facilities, spacious waiting areas, and modern amenities that cater to the needs of today’s discerning travelers.

The construction of the building started on March 1, 2021, during the pandemic and was completed on February 18, 2023. The PTB costs P353 million.

Based on the records of the Port Management Office (PMO) in Mindoro covering the port of Calapan, during regular days, there were 3,000 up to 4,000 daily passengers who used the terminal building and the number of passengers is expected to rise in the coming Holy Week.

Meanwhile, Senator Go said modern facilities will greatly help the riding public, “This is just proof that the government listens and acts to the public complaints. You can count on me and I hope I will help as much as I can and for whatever help I can do for Calapan Port in the future,” Go said.

According to PPA Focal Person Rhodalyn T. Natividad-Cleofe, a Holy Mass and Blessing of the PTB will be held as well as the formal turnover of the operations of said terminal to the Prudential Customs Brokerage Services, Inc., which is responsible for the overall management and operations of the PTB.

Cleofe said PCBSI committed to the PPA that they will do the normal operation effective April 5, due to the transition or process of changing things from the old terminal to this new one. (LTC/PIA-MIMAROPA)
