Seniors receive cash incentives from national government, additional P10K from LGU

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) – Some 27 senior citizens from Alicia, Isabela, were granted an additional P10,000 each from the local government, supplementing the P10,000 cash benefit provided by the national government through the Expanded Senior Citizens Act.

In a ceremonial distribution, 23 octogenarians and three nonagenarians were honored with financial assistance as part of the initiative, which underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the elderly and ensuring their financial stability.

Dulceneah Lyra Dela Cruz, project development officer of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), said a special centenarian from the town also received a P100,000 cash incentive, as stipulated by the Expanded Senior Citizens Act.

“This is in recognition of the significant milestone that centenarians reach, and we are proud to honor them in this way,” Dela Cruz remarked.

She further assured that the distribution of cash grants will continue across the region, ensuring that all eligible senior citizens will receive their benefits.

Alicia Mayor Joel Amos Alejandro also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the NCSC for selecting the town as the venue for the inaugural distribution of benefits under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act.

“We are deeply honored to host this meaningful event, and we are committed to continuing our efforts to support our senior citizens,” Alejandro said.

The local government, he added, would ensure that additional financial assistance would continue to be provided to eligible seniors in Alicia as he reinforces the town’s commitment to the welfare of its elderly population, ensuring they are recognized and supported for their contributions to society.

“This initiative not only acknowledges the invaluable contributions of our elderly citizens but also reflects the government’s strong dedication to improving their quality of life,” Alejandro said.

The distribution event was a heartwarming reminder of the importance of prioritizing the welfare of senior citizens, with both national and local governments coming together to provide tangible benefits. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
