Setting aside politics to focus on dev’t is MisOcc’s strength, says DILG-10

MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) — Although known to have many political issues, the province of Misamis Occidental remains to have outstanding performance in terms of local implementation of programs and services, said Regional Director Wilhelm M. Suyko of the Department of the Interior Local Government (DILG)-10.

“Daghan man political issues sa probinsya pero ilang gi-set aside ang issues (There are many political issues in the province, but they set aside the issues),” he said.

Misamis Occidental has received many awards from DILG as it focuses on development, setting aside politics.

As a highlight during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas with the DILG-10 on July 30, one of the achievements of the department was the representation of Barangay Naburos, Baliangao, Misamis Occidental to a national competition as 1st runner up in the 2023 National Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards (LTIA) for the 4th–6th class category.

According to DILG, LTIA recognizes lupons who performed well in settling disputes in their community. As such, it aims to acknowledge lupons as ‘mediation boards that have effectively demonstrated their capacity to judiciously and promptly resolve cases brought to them’.

The DILG awarded Barangay Naburos a trophy and a cash prize of P250, 000 as an incentive for effectively operationalizing their mandate as lupons at the barangay level.

To continue this streak of awards, DILG Misamis Occidental Provincial Director Pablio L. Benitez, Jr. served as the resource person for the Oroquieta City Lupong Tagapamayapa Skills Enhancement Training-Batch 2, which was held in July. This is to enhance the skills and knowledge of barangay officials in resolving disputes amicably without recourse to the courts.

Meanwhile, 100 percent of the local government units (LGUs) in the province have passed the 2023 Good Financial Housekeeping (GFH) assessment by the DILG.

To pass the GFH assessment, LGUs must comply with the following criteria: obtain an unqualified or qualified most recent available COA Audit Opinion for CYs 2021 or 2022; and comply with the Full Disclosure Policy requirements. (JMOR/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
