KABASALAN, Zamboanga Sibugay —The Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Office 9 recently conducted the Kulinarya Workshop in Kabasalan town, providing hands-on training for 30 community beneficiaries, supporting local food tourism and livelihood opportunities.
Participants learned essential culinary skills, including food safety, sanitation, and the preparation of local cuisine. The activity aimed to enhance food presentation and elevate the town’s culinary offerings for tourists.
The agency’s initiative aligns with its goal of strengthening community-based tourism in Zamboanga Peninsula. By equipping locals with practical skills, the program contributes to both tourism development and economic growth.
Dara May Cataluña, regional director of DOT-9, highlighted the importance of culinary training in promoting local tourism and economic opportunities.
“The Kulinarya Workshop equips communities with culinary skills to enhance both livelihoods and tourism. Showcasing our local flavors creates opportunities for sustainable growth,” Cataluña said.
During the recent Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas in Zamboanga Peninsula, DOT-9 showcased its 2024 accomplishments, including the Kulinarya Workshop, which provided training to 49 beneficiaries in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.
The initiative emphasized how local cuisine can attract visitors by focusing on essential cooking techniques and food presentation. With its rich cultural heritage and scenic attractions like Lacnapan Falls and its hot spring resort, Kabasalan has strong potential as a food tourism destination.
