Siquijor advocacy groups call for unity for peaceful elections

LARENA, Siquijor (PIA) – A province-wide Unity Walk, Interfaith Rally, Candidates’ Briefing, and Peace Covenant Signing were recently held in Siquijor, bringing together the candidates from various political parties here.

Representatives from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and Siquijor Police Provincial Office (SPPO), clergy, pastors, and faith leaders gathered during the event.

Philippine National Police Life Coache Pastor Jephunnie Tabo-tabo encouraged the political aspirants to shake hands as he challenged them to be truthful and do what is right for Siquijodnons.

“We can be ‘taas noo kahit kanino’ if we have the integrity as Filipino. Just do right. God will bless you in a way if you will do right,” Tabo-tabo said.

Pastor Elminda Amondina encouraged the candidates to work together.

“Ang eleksyon usa ra gyud na siya ka adlaw. So kita, kon kinsa man ang mga moguwang mananaug, dawaton ra gyud nato ug mangapildi ta, dili pud laman ta mangaguol kay nangapildi ta. Atong lamanohon ang tong mga kapartido, dayon pagkahuman, suportaharan, para ang atong Siquijor, matuman ug unsa may mga plano,” said Amondina.

(The election is just one day. So, whoever the winners may be, we should accept them and if we lose, we should not be discouraged. Let’s support them, unite and work together to make sure the plans for Siquijor are realized.)

Meanwhile, Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Jerome Brillantes urged the public to help maintain the island’s peace and order as he assured candidates and voters of safe and honest elections.

“I assure you my candidates that the Comelec as well as the uniformed men are transparent, honest. We have a pledge to our people, the people of this island, to safeguard their votes. Akong hangyo ninyo tanan, (I appeal to you) maintain the peace order,” said Brillantes.
