Siquijor earns numerous awards, distinctions

SIQUIJOR, Siquijor (PIA) — The province of Siquijor has earned prestigious awards and distinctions as a result of the Siquijodnons’ dedication and hard work.

Siquijor was recognized during the 2024 Department of Health (DOH) Local Health System Awards for being the most responsible health facility in Central Visayas.

In addition, Siquijor earned recognition from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) with the 2024 Bansiwag Award for local government units.

It stood out as the only province in Central Visayas to attain the distinguished level of functionality in the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) Functionality Assessment among the four provinces in the region.

The provincial government is also part of the LGU Exemplars Subaybayani Awardee 2024 in recognition of its outstanding performance in promoting excellent infrastructure governance and meaningful change, accelerating the growth of resilient communities and building the foundation of a “Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Buhay for all Filipinos.”

The province was also a recipient of the Hall of Fame distinction for Siquijor Isla Mystica Homestay Association (SIMHA) which was chosen to receive the 2025 Association of SouthEast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Homestay Award during the 2025 ASEAN Tourism Standards Awarding Ceremony on January 20 in Malaysia.

According to Provincial Planning and Development Officer Engr. Jason Manos, the recent award is seen to further boost the province’s tourism industry and local economy.

“Boosting local economic development requires a strategic approach tailored to the province’s unique opportunities and challenges. So first and foremost, our bread and butter and it is becoming one of the major economic drivers, is tourism. We have to develop tourism sustainably, we have to promote further ecotourism, marine activities and cultural heritage kay mao nay atong unique offering diri sa province (because that is our unique offering here in the province). Also, to further boost our tourism activities or industry, it should be supported by improved infrastructure,” said Manos.

Siquijor’s economy has grown from P12.02 billion in 2022 to P12.77 billion in 2023, or a 6.2 percent increase as reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority. (RAC/PIA7 Siquijor)
