Siquijor ready for 1st hosting of reg’l schools presscon

SIQUIJOR, Siquijor (PIA) — Preparations for the upcoming hosting of the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) of the Department of Education (DepEd) on Feb. 24 to 28 in Siquijor Province is in full swing.

This is the first time that Siquijor will host the RSPC.

DepEd Education Program Supervisor Maria Enin Cuevas of the Division of Siquijor said the province expects an influx of campus journalists, DepEd officials teachers and coaches, parents and visitors from different schools across Central Visayas.

“For the first time we will be hosting the Regional Schools Press Conference. The event will take place on Feb 24 to 28, 2025. But Prior to this days, we will be expecting the arrival of some of the delegates . On February 23, We will be having the checking of gadgets that include the cameras, laptops, and other gadgets to be used by our campus journalists,” Cuevas said during the Information Sharing with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Siquijor Association of Information Disseminators (SAID).

There are 4,862 campus journalists, school paper advisers, and journalism in-charge of the 20 schools division offices in Region 7.

The chief of the Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU) and Siquijor Police Station Chief, Police Lt. Col. Roland Aliser, also assured that security preparations for the event are in place.

Aliser said there has been a series of coordination meetings and discussions focusing on personnel deployment and other essential matters related to ensuring the safety and security of the event.

“Nakahan-ay na ang atong security preparations, gani starting pa lang sa petsa 20 naa na tay mga police officers nga nakapuesto sa mga billeting areas ngadto sa mga eskuylahan nga adunay mga corresponding nga mga probinsya kon diin sila mag-abot. Naa tay mga police, uban pud sa atong mga barangay tanods ug mga non-government organizations nga nag work side by side para lang gyud mahatagan ug security and safety ang mga bata nga mga delegates ug sa ilang tagsatagsa ka mga pamilya,” Aliser said.

(Our security preparations are now in place. Starting from the 20th, we already have police officers stationed in the billeting areas near the schools, along with the corresponding provinces where the delegates will be arriving. We have police, along with our barangay tanods and non-government organizations, working side by side to ensure the safety and security of the children delegates and their respective families.)

Currently, Aliser added that the police force continues to carry out checkpoint operations as part of the preparations for the upcoming RSPC.

He said the Siquijor Police Provincial Office (SPPO) also deployed additional police officers from other stations to assist in areas where activities will be held, as well as in places where the delegates will be billeted.

“Ang ato usab kapulisan sa tourist police unit, nag-alerto usab kanunay unya ato kining gihangyo pinaagi sa ilang OIC nga magfull duty sila anang mga panahona agi’g pagpangandam,” he said.

(Our police in the tourist police unit are always on alert, and we have requested through their OIC for them to be on full duty during these times as part of the preparations.)

Aliser said they anticipate that after the RSPC, visitors will be traveling to various places in the province of Siquijor.”

“Sa pagka karon maingon nato nga 100 percent nga andam na ang atong kapulisan para paghatag ug kahapsay ug kalinaw ingon man seguridad sa mga delegado ingon man sa mga pamilya sa mga bata nga gikan sa laing probinsya alang sa RSPC nga i-held diri sa probinsya sa Siquijor,” he assured.

(As of now, we can say that our police force is 100 percent prepared to ensure peace, order, and security for the delegates and their families from other provinces for the RSPC being held here in Siquijor province.)
