Smoke emission testing center opens in Borongan City

BORONGAN CITY (PIA) — The issue on the lack of smoke emission testing for motor vehicle owners in Borongan City and nearby towns will be addressed following the opening of the RALA Motor Vehicle Inspection Service Center in Brgy. Can-abong, Borongan City.

The city’s smoke emission testing center was established after the local Mayor’s office endorsed all applications to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), according to Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda.

“My aim was to prioritize the long-standing issue of the lack of a smoke emission testing center in Borongan. Many have struggled to bring their vehicles to Mercedes and Guiuan for testing. Finally, after so many years, it was realized,” he said.

Based on the demonstrated support of tricycle operators and drivers for the “Libre Sakay” or Free Ride Program, Agda requested the new emission testing center to offer a discount on the smoke emission test fee for tricycle operators and drivers accredited by the Borongan Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA).

The owner of the emission testing center, Raymond Apita responded positively, assuring that he was ready to give a P50 discount on the P500 fee.

Apita added that the RALA Motor Vehicle Service Center can accommodate 80 vehicles per day.

The documents required for the smoke emission test include the previous Official Receipt (OR) and Certificate of Registration (CR). If the vehicle’s license plate still needs to be released, a substitute must be obtained from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to be presented at the testing center.

With the opening of the smoke emission testing center in Borongan City, the number of registered vehicles at the LTO in Eastern Samar province is expected to increase. (SDC, PIA Eastern Samar)
