ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) — The National Electrification Administration (NEA) highlights the resolution of the power supply issues in Occidental Mindoro as one of its major accomplishments for the year.
NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda stated that the power situation in Occidental Mindoro has significantly improved after more than a year of grappling with the energy crisis.
Collaborating with Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative Inc. (OMECO) and its electricity provider, Occidental Mindoro Consolidated Power Corp. (OMCPC), NEA expedited crucial energy generation projects in the province.
During a recent visit to the OMCPC SAMARICA solar power plant, set to begin operations in the coming weeks, Almeda emphasized that completing the solar power plant is the fastest way to reduce electricity prices in the province.
NEA disclosed that the finalization and commissioning of the solar power plant will enable an application with the Energy Regulatory Commission for a provisional authority. This authority will support the power supply agreement between OMECO and OMCPC, making them eligible to apply for the universal charge for missionary electrification subsidy.
The ongoing construction of the P500 million solar farm in Brgy. San Isidro, San Jose, is now 92% complete. Spanning seven hectares, the power plant is equipped with 13,600 solar panels capable of generating 7.4 MW of electricity.
Resolving the power crisis in Occidental Mindoro is also one of the problems raised to President Ferdinand Marcos when he visited the province before being elected last year. (PJF/PIA Mimaropa – Romblon)
