Southern Leyte communicators’ network strengthens push for info campaigns

MAASIN CITY (PIA) — An organized group of information officers from the national government agencies, local government units, public and private media practitioners in Southern Leyte, has elected a new set of leaders to manage the organization in the next two years.

The election, facilitated by the Philippine Information Agency Southern Leyte, was held during a general assembly of the Communicators Network – Southern Leyte (ComNet-SL) on Thursday, April 3, at the Liga Building in Brgy. Combado, this city.

Elected officers were Aivan Lloyd Calonia of the Department of Science and Technology (President), Randilou Uy of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (Vice President), Wencel Marie Laroa of the Department of Trade and Industry (Secretary), and Anette Lamoste of the Philippine Statistics Authority (Treasurer).

In her remarks, Lyna Gayas of the Department of Education, the immediate past president, said she believed the new set of leaders, with the cooperation of all the members, can further deliver inspiring messages and updates of programs, projects, and services from their respective offices to their respective clients and the general public.

“I feel comfortable with the new set of leaders, and rest assured you have my all-out support,” Gayas said.

In his short acceptance speech, Calonia thanked his fellow communicators for the trust and confidence given him as the new ComNet head, and looked forward to a more proactive source in disseminating updates where technical information can be enlightened for readers and listeners to easily understand.

“Thank you very much for the opportunity,” Calonia said, adding that in the next meeting of the officers, one of the main focus will be on information dissemination efforts with partners in the public and private media, who are also part of the group.

One of the notable accomplishments of ComNet-SL was the communications training workshop for its members in partnership with the provincial government of Southern Leyte.

ComNet-SL was first organized on March 29, 2023, with Cheryl Amor, the former regional head of PIA Eastern Visayas, as the inducting officer.  She is now the regional head of PIA Western Visayas. (MMP/PIA Southern Leyte)
