DAVAO CITY (PIA) — The Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) held an inaugural blessing for the newly reopened Private Ward and the newly acquired medical equipment, including the LEEP, colposcopy, and cryotherapy machines.
These advancements are set to enhance patient care, particularly for OB-GYN and cervical cancer patients, by providing improved accommodations and cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment options.
The Dysplasia Unit, which is equipped to detect early-stage cervical cancer, a prevalent health concern among women. This aims to improve access to affordable healthcare services, ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment while anticipating a significant increase in patient admissions.
SPMC Chairwoman Department of OB-GYN Dr. Loida Michelle Ong emphasized the impact of the newly acquired LEEP, colposcopy, and cryotherapy machines, particularly in improving cervical cancer treatment.
“Dako kaayo siya nga tabang para sa amoang cervical cancer patients. This is also para magamay nato ang atoang mga statistics sa cervical cancer patients, which is the number one cause of death sa mga babae.” Dr. Ong said.
(This is a big help for our cervical cancer patients. So we can lessen our statistics on cervical cancer patients which is the number one cause of death among women.)
Dr. Ong also shared details about the Private Ward, which now houses 15 rooms dedicated to OB-GYN patients. She emphasized the affordable room rates, with semi-private accommodations priced at 1,600 pesos per day, while private rooms cost 2,500 pesos per day.
The reopening of the Private Ward, which was closed during the pandemic, and the establishment of the Dysplasia Unit reinforce SPMC’s commitment to providing accessible and high-quality healthcare, particularly for women’s health and cancer care in Mindanao. (REC / PIA XI)
