DAVAO CITY (PIA) — The Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) turnover blessing of the newly rehabilitated Kalinaw Garden which was sponsored by the Aboitiz Foundation and Davao Light and Power Company.
“Kalinaw” is a Bisayan word for serenity and peace and describes the tranquil atmosphere of the garden, noting the fresh air and its park-like environment, making it an inviting space for anyone who wishes to visit and experience relaxation and healing.
The P4-million garden has green spaces and shaded areas with benches and was developed over an existing garden.
Department of Health (DOH) Region XI Undersecretary for Health and concurrent Regional Director Dr. Abdullah B. Dumama, Jr. underscores the importance of holistic healthcare by recognizing the need for mental health and healing spaces should not only address physical and clinical needs in hospitals.
“Isa na naman itong tugon doon sa pangangailangan ng ating mga pasyente, dahil tumutugon sa emotional and psychological wellness ng individual—individual like sa mga pasyente at saka yung mga healthcare providers na maaaring nakaligtaan natin,” Dumama said.
(This is our response to the needs of our patients as it addresses the emotional and psychological wellness of individuals—like the patients and the health care providers whom we could have forgotten.)
Usec. Dumama also said that the garden would help decongest the wards as the watchers will have an area to go and not stay too long at the wards. (REC / PIA XI)
