SSS conducts 9th RACE activity in Abra; warns delinquent employers

TAYUM, Abra (PIA) — The Social Security System (SSS) continues to go after employers who are delinquent with members contributions with SSS-Abra conducting a Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign in the municipality of Tayum, the ninth activity this year in the province.

SSS-Bangued BranchManager Edward Urua led a team in visiting establishments particularly grocery stores, poultry supplies and a pharmacy.

The team issued to notices of violation and show cause orders to six delinquent employers, and assisted the employers on how to settle their delinquencies.

“We have six target establishments and we personally handed them the notices. On the other hand, this RACE is also a way for us to assist them in settling their delinquencies,” Urua said in an interview.

The RACE campaign aims to ensure the social security coverage of members and enhance SSS’ collection efficiency as provided under Republic Act 11199 or the “Social Security Act of 2018”. Under the Social Security Act, employers who are not registering or remitting the monthly contributions of their workers shall be penalized with a fine of P5,000 to P20,000 and face imprisonment ranging from six years and one day to 12 years.

Urua said that erring employers are given a 15-day grace period from the issuance of the notice to settle their contribution delinquencies with SSS.

The SSS team commended the support of the local government unit of Tayum in the RACE campaign, ensuring that all laborers and employees are covered with social security and benefits. (CAGT, PIA-CAR, Abra)
