SSS conducts RACE campaign in Magsaysay

In a press conference, SSS Branch Manager Joey G. Monte de Ramos advises employers to report to their office for changes in their workforce to avoid penalties and remit contributions on time to ensure that employees are able to receive their benefits.

SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) — The Social Security System (SSS) San Jose branch recently conducted a Run Against Contribution Evaders (RACE) Campaign in the municipality of Magsaysay to remind delinquent private employers of their statutory obligations.

A show cause order was issued to five (5) targeted private employers in the municipality by the SSS Legal Team, giving them 60 days to comply with their unattended responsibilities for their employees.

Under Republic Act No. 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018, employers need to report their employees to SSS, and remit the corresponding monthly contributions of their workers. Failure to do so will lead to a penalty of P5,000 to P20,000 and imprisonment of six (6) years and one (1) day to 12 years.

Atty. Alejandre Diaz from the SSS South Luzon Division emphasized that the campaign’s goal is to help both employers and employees, “Masasabi natin ngayon na ang RACE ay tulong sa mga employer na posibleng nakalimot lang mag-comply sa [Social Security] law…we provide extra time for them to pay their obligations [gaya ng] reporting, production of records, payment of contributions, membership ng employees…We really need to walk the extra mile to make sure that these employees are provided benefits in the end.”

SSS Branch Manager Joey G. Monte de Ramos underscored that the RACE campaign is an effective tool, “We identified 11 [employers] initially. Kaya lang nung nalaman nila na magka-conduct ng RACE, almost half of them…nagsipaghabol ng kanilang compliance. Kaya effective po talaga ang RACE [campaign]…sa tulong ng media rin.”

SSS offers various programs to aid the employers, such as Installment schemes, Contribution Penalty Condonation, and Delinquency Management and Restructuring Program (CPCoDe MRP). These will allow them to pay unremitted contributions without the accumulated penalties.
