SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) — The Social Security System (SSS) Occidental Mindoro conducted the Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign in the municipality of Sablayan.

In a press briefing, SSS Occidental Mindoro Senior Analyst John Michael Gayo explained that the campaign aims to remind delinquent employers to comply with their unsettled accounts, “Ang purpose ng RACE [campaign] ay puntahan ang mga na-identify na mga delinquent employers na i-settle ang kanilang contributions.”

The SSS RACE team visited five (5) employers in the municipality with a show cause order, informing them of their violation of the mandatory provisions of the Social Security Act of 2018 or Republic Act 11199.

Under the said law, employers need to report their employees to SSS and remit the corresponding monthly contributions of their workers. Failure to do so will lead to a penalty of P5,000 to P20,000 and imprisonment of six (6) years and one (1) day to 12 years.

Delinquent employers are given 15 days to comply with the necessary requirements upon the issuance of the show cause order.

SSS Occidental Mindoro acting head Esmeralda Madriaga assured the employers should not fear the campaign, “Kaya po tayo nagka-conduct ng RACE para paalalalahan at matulungan ang mga employers, kaya hindi po ito dapat katakutan.”

SSS offers various programs to aid employers, such as installment schemes, Contribution Penalty Condonation, and Delinquency Management and Restructuring Program (CPCoDe MRP). These will allow them to pay unremitted contributions without the accumulated penalties.

Madriaga advised the employers to report to their office for changes in their workforce as stated in the Social Security Act to avoid penalties and remit contributions on time to ensure that employees are able to receive their benefits.

These benefits include maternity leave for women, sickness, disability, retirement, death and funeral benefits, and salary loans. (DSG/PIA MIMAROPA – Occidental Mindoro)
