SSS educates coastal mineworkers on social security benefits

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) – To expand awareness of social security protections, the Social Security System (SSS) conducted an information and education campaign targeting mineworkers in the coastal town of Dinapigue in Isabela.

Over a hundred workers from the Dinapigue Mining Corporation (DMC) participated in the educational caravan aimed to provide workers with a thorough understanding of their rights and entitlements under the social security system.

John Mark Ilagan, senior communications specialist, underscored the significance of educating mineworkers about their social security benefits and ensuring that they are properly informed and empowered to access the services available to them.

Jade Lacar, senior analyst, discussed the various programs and services available under Republic Act No. 11199, also known as the Social Security Act of 2018 and the Employees’ Compensation Program, outlining the steps for claiming benefits in the event of work-related injuries or disabilities.

“Our office is dedicated to ensuring that mineworkers are well-informed about their rights and the vital protections they are entitled to as SSS members,” Lacar explained.

She also stressed the importance of collaboration between the SSS and employers in promoting employee welfare.

“By providing essential services directly to the workplace, the SSS aims to enhance the financial security and well-being of workers,” she said.

In addition to the educational seminar, the SSS facilitated several online services for DMC employees including SS number issuance, My.SSS account registration, password resets, disbursement account enrollment, generation of Payment Reference Numbers for contributions and loans, MySSS Pension Booster enrollment, benefit and loan applications, and updates to member and employer data.

DMC’s resident engineer, Edwin Casiano, and Human Resource manager, Catherine Realista, expressed their appreciation for the SSS team’s visit as they recognize the value of ensuring that their workers have access to crucial social security benefits.

“Bringing the SSS team to our mining site is a testament to our commitment to the well-being of our employees. Ensuring their future security is a key component of our company’s success and sustainability,” Casiano remarked.

With this continued effort, SSS hopes to reach more workers in remote areas, ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing essential social security benefits. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
