SSS goes after delinquent employers in La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Social Security System (SSS) in La Union is intensifying efforts to ensure employer compliance with the Social Security Act of 2018 (Republic Act 11199), a law designed to safeguard Filipino workers and their beneficiaries.

During a Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign in the towns of Naguilian and Bauang on Wednesday, SSS La Union Branch Head Francisco Pentecostes issued violation notices to four employers for failing to remit their workers’ contributions amounting to over P99,301.48.

Two employers, meanwhile, received written notices for not registering their businesses with the SSS, and one failed to provide necessary records.

“Around seven affected employees are bound to lose their social security protection because their respective employers failed to update their SSS contributions. We are giving these employers 15 days to visit SSS La Union and settle their delinquencies,” Pentecostes stated.

Support available for employers in compliance

For employers facing issues with their business registration and payment records, SSS encourages them to visit the branch office to address their concerns.

“Our Accounts Officers are ready to assist them in records reconciliation and payment of past-due contributions through the contribution penalty condonation program or the installment payment plan,” Pentecostes added.

Consequences of non-compliance

Pentecostes also warned that employers found in violation of the Social Security Law may face severe penalties, including imprisonment from six years and one day to 12 years, along with fines ranging from P5,000 to P20,000.

“All employers must adhere strictly to the law’s stipulations, which include timely remittance of SSS contributions, proper business registration, and availability of necessary documentation for verification of payments,” Pentecostes concluded.

SSS La Union branch aims to conduct RACE operations monthly and reminds employers in the towns of Burgos, Naguilian, Bagulin, Bauang, San Juan, Bacnotan, Balaoan, Bangar, Sudipen, and San Fernando City about their compliance obligations. (AMB/KJCR/MRD, PIA La Union)
