LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) — The Social Security System (SSS) Ilocos Norte discovered P222,685.76 in uncollected employee contributions during its “Run After Contribution Evaders” (RACE) campaign on Feb. 25 in Laoag City.
Nine businesses from sectors –food services, education, and retail were found violating Republic Act No. 11199, or the Social Security Act of 2018, by failing to register, report employees, and remit contributions. These violations affected 38 workers, depriving them of essential benefits.
SSS Laoag Branch Manager Richard Raralio said the employers have until March 12 to settle their obligations, with non-compliance leading to legal action, including court cases and arrest warrants.
“After 15 days from today, we will send the matter to the legal department to start filing cases. They can then charge the people involved and take their case to the prosecutor’s office,” Raralio said.
He urged businesses to review their records and update contributions promptly to avoid penalties.
He also encouraged employees to monitor their SSS accounts and report any discrepancies.
When employers fail to remit SSS contributions, employees lose access to benefits, including retirement pay, sickness benefits, maternity leave, and other forms of financial assistance.
To help employers settle their outstanding obligations, the SSS offers loan amnesty programs. These initiatives ease financial burdens by waiving penalties and offering flexible, manageable payment options, ensuring members can regain their financial stability.
SSS Laoag City said that the social insurer remains committed to protecting workers’ rights and ensuring they receive the benefits they rightfully deserve. (CCMT/MTDA, PIA Ilocos Norte)
