SAGADA, Mountain Province (PIA) — The Social Security System (SSS) Bontoc Branch conducted a Run After Contributions Evaders (RACE) campaign in the municipality of Sagada to remind employers of their legal obligation to ensure social security coverage for their employees.
Nine establishments were visited during the campaign on April 10. Two immediately complied while seven were given 15 days to address their violations.
Attorney Blesselda M. Acosta, Department Manager III of the Luzon North 1 Legal Department, explained that the RACE campaign gives employers a chance to comply with their obligations before legal action is pursued.
“This is for the benefit of the employers — to give them a chance to comply, especially those who may have overlooked their responsibilities under the SSS law, such as reporting their employees, registering as an employer, and remitting SSS contributions and penalties. That’s why we reach out to them — to provide an opportunity for compliance,” she said.
She encouraged business owners to take the opportunity to comply, preventing the issue from escalating to the legal office.
Meanwhile, Saint Mary School of Sagada, Inc. received a Certificate of Appreciation for its consistent and diligent compliance with SSS regulations, demonstrating its commitment to protecting its employees’ social security benefits.
Through RACE, the SSS reinforces the importance of employer compliance and helps avoid penalties under the Social Security Act. (JDP/CGAS-PIA-CAR, Mountain Province)
