SSS partners with local jail to cover inmates

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – The Social Security System (SSS) here and the Bucay District Jail recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to expand  social security protection coverage among inmates of the correctional facility.

Through the MOA, the SSS will bring its AlkanSSSya Program to cater to at least 56 inmates of the Bucay District Jail.

The AlkanSSSya Program provides affordable social protection to workers in the informal sector through contributions for as low as P11 per day. This micro saving scheme will cover inmates who earn from making handicrafts and other products inside the correctional facility.

SSS Luzon North 1 division head Ceasar P. Saludo, SSS Bangued branch manager Edward Urua, and acting District Jail Warden, JSenior Inspector  Franz Marc F. Ganitano led the signing of the MOA.

Ganitano said that the partnership with the SSS will help strengthen efforts to help the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) have a source of income and savings towards financial freedom.

“We look forward na ito pong mga PDLs natin ay ma-encourage natin na makapag-ipon para sa mga future na endeavors nila dahil hindi po natatapos ang rehabilitasyon sa loob ng kulungan kundi pati po sa labas,” he shared.

The jail warden added that the microsaving scheme of the AlkanSSSya Program accommodates the small contributions that inmates can remit from their livelihood activities which are  not regular.

“As the SSS said, hindi lang naman po siya once na hugot so if ever po kulang ang ating mga PDLs for the month ay pwede nilang bawiin iyon sa mga susunod na buwan para at least maintained po ‘yung kanilang minimum na hulog sa SSS,” he explained.

Under the MOA, the PDLs  should remit P330 monthly minimum contribution.
