SSS RACE campaign in Pagadian drives employer compliance, employee awareness

PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) – The Social Security System (SSS) branch here visited nine local establishments as part of their monthly Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign. The campaign targeted employer delinquencies, and show cause orders were presented to these establishments.

Of the nine establishments, three were found with non-registration violations, while six were guilty of non-remittances to SSS, affecting 129 employees. SSS expects to collect around P2.2 million from these establishments.

Employees from the establishments visited appreciated the RACE campaign for informing them about their rights and necessary actions.

Following the campaign, the SSS held a press conference to report their findings and future expectations. They emphasized the importance of compliance and urged employers to meet their obligations under SSS laws.

Atty. Jacinto Felizarta from the SSS Mindanao West Legal Department expressed gratitude for the positive response of the employers visited during the campaign. “Pasalamat ta sa atong mga gipangbisita na mga employers nga subject sa RACE nga maayo lang pud ang ilang pagtagad sa atoa,” he stated.

(We are thankful to the employers we visited who are subject to RACE for their positive response.)

Felizarta reiterated that the show cause orders presented give the employers 15 days to comply with their obligations under the SSS law. He further explained that, according to their internal procedure, should there be any non-compliance with the show cause order, the SSS branch will transmit their records to the legal department, which will then take legal action.

Acting Corporate Executive Officer Remy Marie Kisio shared that the RACE campaigns this year have collected approximately P600,000 in contributions. “This is because some of our employers opted to settle their delinquencies through installment. They have issued post-dated checks nga ilang ginabayad within the period of time nga ilaha pud gi-apply for installments (…that they pay within the period of time for which they applied for installments),” she said.

Kisio announced that the total target amount for this year from the RACE activity is around P5 million from the six RACE activities that SSS conducted this year.

Edwin A. Remoto, branch head of SSS Pagadian, strongly encouraged employers to register their employees from their first day of service. Employees not yet registered were advised to visit SSS to register as members and understand their rights. (EDT/HTB/PIA9-Zamboanga del Sur)
