Stakeholders unite to transform Marikina City into a major food capital

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — In a bid to transform Marikina City into a major food capital in Metro Manila, the Department of Science and Technology – NCR (DOST-NCR), Department of Trade and Industry – NCR (DTI-NCR), and EATS Marikina Food Industry Association collaborate through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the DTI-NCRO Center, Tuesday.

With its mission to pool various resources to make the City into a major food capital, the MOU aims to support the city’s food industry by providing scientific, technological and innovative interventions to the companies, with the goal of providing solutions and opening opportunities for the benefit of Marikina citizens.

Present during the signing ceremony were DOST-NCR Regional Director Engr. Romelen Tresvalles, EATS Marikina President, Mr. Vincent De Castro, and DTI-NCRO Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Regional Director.

Director Tresvalles expressed her gratitude in making this collaboration a reality.

We thank the EATS Marikina Food Industry Association for its initiative in knowing which food to cook, and which industry to promote; fortunately, that is in Marikina.”

Similarly, we welcome this opportunity to further collaborate with DTI-NCRO to provide assistance in realizing the goal together,” she added.

Tresvalles mentioned that aside from being well known as the “Shoe Capital,” Marikina has a potential to also be one of the key players in the local food industry, famous for their Puto Rocha, Waknatoy and Everlasting.

Under the agreement, DOST-NCR will provide innovations, and science and technology-based solutions for food entrepreneurs in the city. Likewise, DTI-NCRO will provide training and seminars for micro, small and medium enterprises to expand and diversify. (JVD/PIA-NCR)
