Surigao Sur fortifies health, wellness

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur — The Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Surigao del Sur, , in collaboration with the Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH – CHD) in Caraga, successfully conducted a Health and Wellness Fair that highlighted the competition dubbed “Bisyo Skeri” poster-making contest, at the Provincial Capitol lobby, Capitol Hills, Telaje, Tandag City on Wednesday, November 15.

Anchored on the theme, “Ampingi imong kinabuhi, Likayi ang droga ug ang agpanigarilyo (Take care of your life, avoid drugs and smoking),” the activity featured an informative symposium on topics that discussed substance abuse, smoking, and  vaping, to raise awareness and educate the community on the dangers of the harmful habits.

The activity promoted awareness and inculcated the importance of health and wellness among the participants from the different local government units in the province through the enlightenment of the expert speakers who shared their knowledge on the subject matter.

“The Bisyo Skeri poster-making contest also amplified  the event which allowed participants to showcase their artistic skills and creativity, “ said Helbert Lugo, PHO health education and promotion officer.

Lugo added that the participants were given two hours to pour their talent into creating visually captivating posters. After careful deliberation, the winners of the competition were as follows:

1st place: Jasper C. Tare of LGU – Carmen;
2nd place: Jedrick Buctot of LGU – Marihatag; and
3rd place: JV Argote of LGU – Cortes.

The winners also received certificates,  plaque of recognition, and cash prizes, to wit: 1st place: P6,000; 2nd place: P4,500; and 3rd place: P3,500.

“As a token of appreciation, a consolation prize of P2,500 was awarded to the rest of the creative individuals,” Lugo noted.

 

 

The organizer extended their gratitude to all the participating LGUs namely, Carmen, Marihatag, Cortes, Cantilan, Madrid, Lanuza, Tandag City, San Miguel, Tago, Cagwait, Bislig, and Lingig for their active involvement that contributed significantly to the overall success of the event.

Meanwhile, PHO chief, Dr. Eric Montesclaros, stated that the Health And Wellness Fair and Bisyo Skeri poster-making contest provided a platform for artistic expression, and most importantly it raised awareness on the importance of the health and wellness of residents in the community.

The provincial government, DOH–CHD Caraga, and other stakeholders expressed their felicity and gratitude to all participants  for the extra mile they delivered to make the event a success.
