MANILA, (PIA) — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte leads a list of the Philippines’ top 20 performing city mayors, according to a new independent survey released by the RP Mission and Development Foundation Inc.
The “Boses ng Bayan” survey, which evaluated 148 city mayors nationwide, ranked Belmonte highest with a 90.58% approval rating.
Malabon City’s Jeannie Sandoval and Candon City’s Eric Singson followed closely with 90.36% and 90.32% respectively.
The comprehensive assessment, which polled 10,000 respondents across the country, measured mayors’ effectiveness in areas including public safety, social services, infrastructure development, and transparency.
Notable performers in the top tier included Navotas City’s John Rey Tiangco (90.19%), Lapu-Lapu City’s Ahong Chan (90.15%), Talisay City’s Samsam Gullas, Parañaque City’s Eric Olivarez (89.88%) and Caloocan City’s Along Malapitan (89.63%).
“The performance assessment is rigorous—one must be a top performer within their region to qualify,” said Dr. Paul Martinez, RPMD’s executive director. “We aim to recognize mayors who exemplify outstanding governance.”
The survey also highlighted strong performances from mayors of major cities, including Zamboanga’s John Dalipe (88.71%), Bacolod’s Albee Benitez (87.82%), and Davao’s Baste Duterte (83.27%).
The evaluation, conducted during the second quarter of 2024, aims to promote accountability and excellence in local governance across the Philippines’ cities. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
