Tabak’s new commander to continue advocacy for peace, progress

The newly appointed Commander of the 1st Infantry Tabak Division of the Philippine Army, Major General Yegor Rey P Barroquillo Jr delivers his assumption speech. 

PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) — Major General Yegor Rey P Barroquillo Jr, the newly-designated commanding general of the First Infantry “Tabak” Division (1ID) vowed to uphold the legacy of his predecessors, continuing their mission with precision and dedication.

In his speech during the Division’s change of command ceremony, Barroquillo outlined plans to assess and refine the division’s processes, define strategies, and strengthen the organization to ensure that its mission is consistently accomplished.

“Our mission does not end with one accomplishment; it continuously presents new challenges and opportunities, and I have no doubt that together, we will rise to the commitment,” he said in his assumption speech, emphasizing readiness for future challenges.

He underscored preparations to be made for the three elections set this year – the May National and local elections, the October BARMM parliamentary elections, and the December Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections that present unique threats, including potential violence, fraud, and insurgency resurgence.

“To address this, the security operations shall be thorough, impartial, and relentless to ensure the peaceful and orderly exercise of people’s right to suffrage,” he said. 

He further emphasized the importance of continuing positive engagements with the MILF and MNLF. 

“We must remain steadfast in supporting government reconciliation programs, which are tangible expressions of our commitment to healing past wounds, rebuilding trust, and fostering an inclusive society,” he affirmed.

While focusing on internal security operations, the division will also continue to capacitate, train, and prepare its troops for external security operations.

Lieutenant General Roy M. Galido, the commanding general of the Philippine army presides over the turnover of the command symbol, the saber which symbolizes power and prestige.

“The threats to national security are constantly evolving, becoming more sophisticated and unpredictable,” he said. 

“As guardians of peace and security, we must not only react but proactively anticipate and respond to these challenges. This is not just a duty but a commitment.”

As the leadership transitions, the Philippine Army reaffirms that while leadership may change, its duty, honor, and dedication to the nation remain steadfast.

With the unwavering support of stakeholders, partners, and the communities they serve, MGen Barroquillo Jr assures that the Tabak Division will continue to be a reliable force and a steadfast pillar of the Philippine Army, remaining committed to its mission of securing peace and stability in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces.
