Tabuk City awards cash incentives to CARAA Meet medalists

TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) – The Tabuk City government  awarded cash incentives to athletes who won medals in the 2025 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet held in Benguet.

While cash incentives are usually given to athletes days after the sports competition has concluded, the Tabuk City government decided to reward their student-athletes promptly after they won their medals.

“Tapnu siyempre dagiyay ubbing ma-motivate da nu makita da. Kasla tatta, kayat da met makaala ti gold a ta makita da nga dagus met nga maiyawat tayo dagiyay incentives kada isuda,” said City Special Concerns and Coordinating Officer Glenn Wansi.

Wansi said they hold the awarding on the eve of the athletes winning their medals.

Among the first recipients of the incentives are gold medalists Mark Lister Taloza (Secondary Long Jump Boys), Jemuel Aggalao (5000-meter run, Secondary Boys), Romelyn Mangawit (Elementary Long Jump), and Ahiezer Ancheta (Elementary Discus Throw) who each got P15,000.

Meanwhile, P10,000 was each given to early silver medalists Chrislyn Sabaway (400-meter run, Elementary Girls), Myrah Jchaine Guloy (Long Jump, Secondary Girls), and Sharapova O. Tuppiyac (Chess, Blitz).

Teams who won bronze in group events also received P10,000 each including the team of Zyrus Aranda, Dave Sincere Ngay, Daniel Galamto, and Roy Christian Bargas (swimming 4×50 Relay, Secondary Boys); and Aliah Palason, Janine Luis, and Agnaya Dawaton (swimming 4×50 Relay, Elementary Girls).

Bronze medalist Gerry Xavier Angngad (Elementary Long Jump Boys) received ₱5,000.

The awarding ceremony was led by Tabuk City CARAA 2025 delegation officials including Wansi, Tabuk City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Benedicta Gamatero, City Legal Officer Arthur Kub-ao, and other department heads.

Tabuk City institutionalized giving incentives to student-athletes through City Ordinance No. 007, Series of 2025, or “An Ordinance Granting Cash Incentive to Athletes who won medals in the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet and Palarong Pambansa Sports Competition.”

Under the ordinance, medalists in individual and team events in the CARAA Meet are entitled to monetary rewards ranging from P5,000 to P30,000 while medalists in the Palarong Pambansa get cash incentives ranging from P10,000 to P35,000.

The 2025 CARAA Meet runs from February 23-28, 2025 with the province of Benguet as host. (JDP/IOS-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
