CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) — Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials elected in the last October 30 polls participated in the mandatory training before they assume office to capacitate them on effectively running the youth affairs in their respective barangays.
City Local Government Operations Officer Helen E. Lacuesta said Republic Act 10742 or “Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015” requires newly elected SK officials to undergo training and orientation on office administrative policies, financial management, parliamentary procedures and other related policies.
Participants were also oriented on the provisions of RA 11768 or the SK Governance Reforms and Compensation Law of 2022 which allots the SK 10 percent share of the regular barangay fund.
The law has also expanded the age requirement of SK officials to 18-24 years old. It also mandated the creation of a local youth development council to assist in planning and executing SK projects.
Lacuesta impressed on the city youth leaders to serve as responsible models to fellow youth reciprocating their vote of trust with sincere public service.
The SK should be a training ground for good leaders with the sole intent to deliver good service to the people, Lacuesta stressed.
With you in that office it is expected that our youth will be ushered to good values and provided needed programs and relevant projects, she added.
The workshop was conducted by DILG and City Youth Development Coordinating Office on November 10.
On November 14, the SK barangay chairpersons elected the new set of officers of the Tabuk City SK Federation. Elected as the new SK Federation president is Andrea Daphne Amla of barangay Naneng. She will sit as an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Acting Mayor Dick G. Bal-o advised the youth leaders to serve with competence and integrity reminding them of the trust and confidence their fellow youth bestowed upon them. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
