Tabuk Vet office heightens alert vs antrax

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) — The City Veterinary Office (CVO) has heightened alert in animal checkpoints as the ban on transport of live carabao and other carabao products is in effect.

City Veterinarian Carmen Wanas has directed a 24/7 checkpoint inspection of all vehicles transporting livestock to assure said products will not enter the city.

The CVO has coordinated with the police and other law enforcement agencies on the move.

Governor James S. Edduba earlier issued ban on transport of live carabao and other carabao following reports of animal and human anthrax cases in Barangay Calassitan, Sto Nino in nearby Cagayan province recently.

With this, the CVO immediately conducted monitoring and appealed to residents to report to their office any suspected anthrax case in their area.

As of this writing, the city is free of anthrax, the CVO clarified.

Health authorities warned that persons exposed to infected carabao meat may contract the disease.

The ban can be lifted as soon as the cases in Cagayan are cleared, the order stated. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
