Tagum-based USeP med school unveils modern facilities

TAGUM CITY,  Davao del Norte – –  The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) School of Medicine (SoM)  recently unveiled its P216.5 million-worth of  modern facilities during its launch in its Mabini Campus in Apokon here.

“Our event today, the launch of the anatomy laboratory, simulation laboratory and the library is part of our goal to cultivate medical doctors from and for the community,” said Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales Jr., SUC President IV of USeP.

Gabales said the modern facilities are tailored to modern medical training and “would enhance the study of aspiring medical professionals.”

The USeP advanced simulation laboratory is equipped with high-fidelity mannequins, enabling the students to practice medical procedures and clinical skills.

The USep SOM library is designed “to offer support to students for their medical studies as well as stay updated with the latest research in the field,” Dr. Gabales said.

During  the event, Dr. Aldrin Darilag, commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and  chair of USeP Boards of Regents, told  the public that “the school of medicine…is the first and the currently the only state-run medical school in Region XI.”

“It is with ardent hope that the utilization of these facilities will be put to greater use, to embody hospital values, to encourage staff wellness, to show commitment to patient safety, and to apply health standards and ethical codes of conduct of all healthcare professionals,” Dr. Darilag said.

During the same ceremony, Department of Health (DOH) Center for Health and Development (CHD) regional director Annabelle Yumang  cited the USeP School of Medicine as the launchpad of aspiring medical doctors “towards a fulfilling  career dedicated to serving communities.”

“This is the place to  not only gain the necessary skills and knowledge but also to develop the Filipino values of compassion, dedication, and social responsibility. This is a space to learn to navigate complex healthcare systems and become instrumental in crafting solutions for a healthier future for all Filipinos,” Dr. Yumang said.

She also cited USeP SOM as a school that  shows the commitment of DOH to promote medical education especially in regions.

Having the USeP SOM in Tagum City opens up wide opportunities for Tagum-based low income but truly aspiring medical professionals to “make their dreams come true,” city health officer Dr. Arnel Florendo said.

Representing City of Tagum Mayor Rey T. Uy, Dr. Florendo assured of the support that the city government of Tagum can do, not only for USeP SOM but also for its students. (JMDA, PIA XI)
