TESDA-9 urges women: Take advantage of tech skills, livelihood training

One of TESDA’s training programs for women, a baking and pastry course, was conducted in Pagadian City as part of the Women’s Month celebration.

PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR (PIA) — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-9 continues to highlight the importance of women by providing accessible technical skills and livelihood training programs.

“TESDA encourages all women, particularly those in Zamboanga del Sur and Pagadian City, to take advantage of available training programs that can help improve their skills and explore new employment or business opportunities,” said Mercedita Rabe, senior technical education and skills development specialist of TESDA Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Office.

She said the programs will augment the significant contributions of women in their communities and the economy, and noted how women of today are increasingly occupying roles traditionally held by men.

TESDA-9 is offering a variety of skills training for women with national certificate competencies that align with local job opportunities such as dressmaking, bread and pastry production, cookery, bookkeeping, electrical installation and maintenance, shielded metal arc welding, and plumbing.

The agency assures that these courses are accessible to everyone as long as partner training centers and trainers are available upon request.

“Women in the municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur need not worry,” Rabe said, emphasizing TESDA’s commitment to ensure that even in rural areas, training opportunities are accessible.

“We are working with local government units and community organizations through the Community Training for Employment Coordinators in every municipality to offer training programs. Currently, there are 28 CTECs in Zamboanga del Sur,” she said.

For those interested in acquiring a National Certificate (NC) with competencies 1, 2, or 3, the requirements and qualifications include: participants being at least 18 years old, present a copy of their high school diploma or equivalent Transcript of Records (TOR), submit other relevant educational documents, provide a valid ID, and most importantly, a copy of their Philippine Statistics Authority-issued birth certificate.

TESDA also offers a range of scholarships and financial assistance programs. Currently, a provincial scholarship allocation plan in Zamboanga del Sur for the Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP), the Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA), and the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) are available for interested applicants.
