TESDA, DTI collaborate to bridge skills gap in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, along with the Department of Trade and Industry and other agencies, conducted a Focus Group Discussion on Area-Based Priority Skills Requirements to align Technical Vocational Education and Training programs with industry demands.

TESDA Capiz Provincial Director Rick M. Abraham emphasized the importance of demand-driven and data-driven TVET, which aligns with TESDA’s 8-Point Strategy and ensures that training programs respond directly to labor market needs.

He noted that the skills gap between industry requirements and TESDA graduates must be addressed by ongoing program developments, industry collaborations and more employer engagement.

For their part, DTI OIC-Provincial Director Merian A. Asas, along with 18 DTI-Capiz assisted enterprises, attended the FGD in support of TESDA’s move to align TVET programs with industry demands to ensure a competent and job-ready workforce.

The 18 representatives included five service and repair enterprises, three construction and hardware firms, one garment store, three information and communication technology sector MSMEs, three MSMEs in the creatives sector and three MSMEs in the processed fruits and nuts sector.

“We thank our 18 accredited Service and Repair Enterprises who attended this focus group discussion as the government works closely with other stakeholders to harmonize and improve existing policies and guidelines toward robust economic growth through proactive government programs and initiatives,” Asas said.

Aside from the DTI, the FGD brought together Technical Vocational Institutions, TESDA Technology Institutions, the Public Employment Service Office, the Department of Labor and Employment, Capiz State University and industry stakeholders to identify workforce demands, skills gaps and training enhancements.

Abraham urged stakeholders to strengthen partnerships with MSMEs, cooperatives and key industry players to create more opportunities for skills upgrading and job placements.

In addition, DTI Capiz said its participation is crucial, especially in regulating the increasing number of service and repair enterprises in Capiz, while TESDA certifies mechanics and technicians’ competencies under its NC II Program.

They highlighted their commitment to fostering partnerships with TESDA and other agencies to advance Capiz’s growth. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
