DAVAO CITY (PIA) — The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Phase II Project has made significant strides in expanding and renovating the Regional Training Center – Korea Philippines Vocational Training Center (RTC-KORPHIL) in Davao.
This pivotal collaboration between KOICA and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) was celebrated in a turnover ceremony that highlighted the progress made in enhancing vocational training in the region.
TESDA Secretary Jose Francisco “Kiko” B. Benitez, emphasized that TESDA follows an area-based demand ribbon framework, consulting with local government units (LGUs), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), and industry partners to assess the specific skills needed in each area.
This process ensures that the training offered aligns with the unique workforce demands of each locality, and the programs are designed to meet national development priorities as well.
Secretary Benitez identified four key industries with high demand for skilled workers. He noted that these sectors are experiencing increasing demand both locally and internationally.
“The first is agriculture, as usual; construction; tourism and its associated fields, like hospitality and so on… Among those four, they tend to be the highest amount of demand nationwide.” Benitez said.
These international collaborations help TESDA ensure that its certifications meet global standards and prepare Filipino workers for the international labor market. (REC / PIA XI)
